Alex Albon keen on repeating race where he collided with Lewis Hamilton – “Would give him more space”

Red Bull reserve driver Alex Albon would love to repeat the race where he collided with Lewis Hamilton and lost his shot at a win.

Albon hasn’t made the grid this season, as Red Bull replaced him with Sergio Perez. The Thai driver wasn’t the perfect teammate for Max Verstappen, and couldn’t give him much competition. In a year and a half of driving for Red Bull, Albon never managed to win or be consistent enough.

However, Albon had come extremely close to a victory once. This was in Austria. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be, as he collided with Hamilton and lost out.

Speaking to Square Mile about his F1 prospects and whether he would change anything from his stint with Red Bull, Albon said, ”If I could repeat a race again it would be a bad race so I could try and do a better job, but I would say Austria.

“It was the first race of the year in 2020, it’s the race where Lewis and I had a contact in turn four. We should have won that race if it wasn’t for that crash, so I would have given him a little more space and see if that did the trick,” he explained.

Rebuilding

Albon did manage podiums in Mugello and in Bahrain. However, Red Bull signed Sergio Perez, which meant Albon failed to make the grid. Nevertheless, he is determined to make a return to F1, and said as much.

”My primary goal is to get back into F1. And that’s it really, that’s my mindset this year. I’m pushing hard and trying everything I can to achieve that,” he concluded.

Albon recently played a key role with his superb simulator work in Monaco. He is talented and can do good things on the track. Will he make a triumphant return to F1, Red Bull or otherwise? Let us know in the comments below.
