Alexandra Patricia Morgan, also known as Alex Morgan is an Olympic gold medalist and FIFA Women’s World Cup champion from the United States.
She plays as a forward for the Orlando Pride of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and the US women’s national team.
Early life
Alex Morgan was born on 2 July 1989 in San Dimas, California. Morgan spent her youth as a forward and striker for Cypress Elite and the California Golden Bears from 2007 to 2010.
She began her senior career with West Coast FC from 2008 to 2009. In 2010, she played for the California Storm and Pali Blues. In 2011, for the Western New York Flash, and in 2012 for the Seattle Sounders Women.
Career
Morgan has played for the Portland Thorns FC since 2013, scoring 14 goals in 33 appearances. She represents the United States in international competitions. Morgan was also a member of the United States Under-20 team in 2008 and has been a member of the US senior team since 2010, scoring 51 goals in 85 appearances.
Morgan was ranked number one on the 2011 WPS Draft. At the age of 22, she was the national team’s youngest player at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Morgan won a gold medal at the London Olympics in 2012 after scoring the game-winning goal against Canada in the semifinals. She has been designated as US FIFA World Player of the Year and Soccer Female Athlete of the Year.
