Former WWE and UFC champion Brock Lesnar has made a shocking return to WWE, after more than a year.
Lesnar was last seen in 2020, when he lost the WWE championship to Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania. He hasn’t returned to the ring since.
SummerSlam 2021 concluded with Universal Champion Roman Reigns defeating John Cena in the main event. Reigns and Cena went to war, and the champion kicked out of three Attitude Adjustments. After champion and challenger traded heavy hits and blows, Reigns prevailed. The Tribal Chief blasted the Leader of the Cenation with a spear, and pinned him to retain his title.
Reigns and special counsel Paul Heyman celebrated the triumph after the match. The champion stood over Cena’s fallen body and posed with the title. Suddenly, ‘The Next Big Thing’ played over the speakers, and Brock Lesnar made his return by hitting the ring.

The crowd lost its mind as the Beast Incarnate made his way to the ring, sporting a new, mean haircut and eyes filled with fire. Lesnar hit the ring with a smile, and stared Reigns down. Ultimately, the champion and his manager decided to retreat and make their way back to the dressing room.
Storied past
The history between Reigns and Lesnar is well-documented. It is a rivalry which has spanned six years. The difference is this time, Reigns is the heel, and Lesnar is possibly a face. It is also the first time Lesnar might challenge Reigns for a title. Until now, Lesnar has always put championships on the line against the Samoan.
The wildcard here is Heyman, who has a long history with Lesnar. He was Lesnar’s manager when the Beast debuted in WWE. He was his advocate for the longest time, until he lost to McIntyre at WrestleMania. Now he is with Reigns, and Lesnar will definitely address that issue when they next meet.
Lesnar is rumoured to appear on the next episode of SmackDown, the same show Reigns wrestles on. The next challenger for the Universal Championship will most likely be Lesnar, and it will be fireworks. Vince McMahon may finally have found the riposte to CM Punk’s shocking AEW debut.
