Fau Vake is a New Zealand MMA fighter. He is a mentor and colleague of UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at their Auckland gym City Kickboxing.
Like many of his City Kickboxing colleagues, Vake is a kickboxer who recently entered MMA. He fights in the welterweight division of MMA and has a current record that stands at 2-0.
Vake was allegedly involved in a brawl, which resulted in his admission to Auckland City Hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning. The young fighter is in critical condition and fighting for his life.
Following this, UFC middleweight champion Adesanya asked his Twitter followers to pray for his friend’s life.
Kai Kara France, a fellow UFC fighter and City Kickboxing teammate, retweeted Adesanya’s post and asked the social media universe to pray for his friend’s wellbeing.
A New Zealand publication named ‘Stuff’ wrongly announced that Fau Vake had died as a result of his injuries, shocking the young fighter’s friends and family.
Following that, Adesanya lashed out at the paper for wrongly publishing the news of Vake’s death via his Twitter handle.
‘Stuff’ has since corrected its error and changed the story.
Fau Vake was keen to enter UFC
Fau Vake switched to MMA from Kickboxing in the expectation that he would eventually enter the UFC, as did his teammates at City Kickboxing.
Fau Vake is a stylish kickboxer with many loops. He has been mostly competitive in Kickboxing as a medium weight but is competing as a WWW in MMA.
Hopefully Vake will recover and re-establish his training routine and continue to work towards his dream of entering UFC.
