Carlos Sainz gives reason for not “messing” with Charles Leclerc

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has given the reason for not messing with teammate Charles Leclerc.

Sainz moved to Ferrari from McLaren, joining Leclerc at the Italian team. One of his defining traits at McLaren was his great relationship with his teammate. He has made sure there is one with his current teammate as well.

Sainz was quizzed recently about teammate racing and friendly rivalries on track. He had a very solid response to it, saying that he does his own thing. He only wants his team to achieve the best results.

Speaking to Auto Motor und Sport, the Spaniard said, “That has nothing to do with a strategy. I approach a team openly without prejudices or animosities.

“It’s important to enjoy the job. If I enjoy it, my performance is better. Why should I mess with my teammate? It doesn’t do me any good. It works better if you can laugh about things together and joke about good and bad laps in qualifying.

“If we both work in the same direction, the atmosphere in the team is better and we make faster progress,” Sainz said.

Sainz also stated that the rivalry between Ferrari and McLaren is shaping up, and their team is doing their best to beat the Woking outfit. He addressed an issue with the car he is having at the moment, and that is consistency.

As reported by givemesport, the Ferrari driver said, “My pace is right, but there is a lack of consistency.

“And today, you really do have to put all the puzzle pieces in the right place to show a good racing performance. I’m doing better now and it has comforted me to see that I was always close to Charles in terms of speed. But he has managed to put better weekends together,” he concluded.
