Jahmaal Noel Fyffe, also known as Chip or Chipmunk, was born on November 26, 1990, in Tottenham. Chip’s parents divorced when he was young, but despite this, he did well in school. He graduated from high school with three A levels, all of which were D or higher.

Chip was interested in music from a young age, frequently renting out studios to compose music with his pals. He was inspired by early pirate radio stations, as well as artists such as Wiley and Dizzee Rascal.

He signed a deal with Sony Music’s Columbia Records. From then, he went on to record his first album, ‘I Am Chipmunk’ which includes the songs ‘Diamond Rings’ and ‘Chip Diddy Chip.’ They both charted at number six and twenty-one, respectively.

Career

He became the youngest rapper to ever chart in the top ten. Following this, Chip released his most successful single, ‘Oopsy Daisy’, which reached number one in the UK charts. He shattered yet another record, this time becoming the youngest rapper to reach the top place.

Chipmunk had re-entered the charts in 2010 with the release of his new album, ‘Transition.’ Trey Songz, Wretch 32, and Chris Brown were featured in the album. His collaboration with Chris Brown, titled ‘Champion,’ was the first single to be released from the new album. It went on to reach number two on the charts, narrowly missing out on a first place.

Chip’s music career changed in 2012 because the record label he had joined, Jive Records, was disbanded along with other lesser divisions late in 2011.

However, Chipmunk went on to sign with T.I.’s record company, ‘Grand Hustle,’. T.I was the one who changed Chipmunk’s name to Chip.

Chip had release the free mixtape titled ‘London Boy’ under the T.I label. Chip later moved on to grime after releasing this mixtape. He has worked with artists like Stormzy, Krept, and Konan.

Chip was indulged in several feuds with fellow Grime MCs such as Bugzy Malone and Yungen. He recently released his third album, ‘league of my own 2,’ as well as a joint record with Skepta and Young Adz.
