Clearance: Vettel gets rid of highly coveted Ferrari road cars

Sebastian Vettel had signed for Ferrari in the hope of emulating his childhood idol Michael Schumacher. The four-time world champion, however, was never able to realise this dream.

Ferrari was too far off Mercedes in his first two years at the team. After that, he spent the next two years in direct competition with Lewis Hamilton. The last two years before he was shown the door by Ferrari saw him being usurped by Charles Leclerc.

It may have left a bitter taste in the German’s mouth, who has henceforth looked to liquidate his collection of top-end Ferrari road cars.

Vettel’s collection of Ferraris was listed for sale by vintage broker Tom Hartley Junior, who announced the cars’ listings through Instagram.

Last year, Hartley had helped Vettel sell the helmet he wore at his final podium with Ferrari for charity. Of the eight cars that have been listed, five are Ferraris.

This includes mid-engined V12 Ferrari halo cars; an Enzo, F50 and a LaFerrari. The F12tdf and 458 Speciale round off his collection of Ferraris. Interestingly, of the remaining three non-Ferrari cars, two are Mercedes. The SLS and an SL65 Black Series will also be auctioned. The final car in the list is a BMW Z8.

One can’t help but wonder if that’s a purchase from Vettel’s early days in the sport with BMW-Sauber.

You may argue that Vettel is a bit of a company man. Only time will tell. Perhaps he will enter the Grand Prix in an Aston Martin DBX. We’ll wait and see.
