“Could be an interesting option”: Two high-profile drivers linked with ‘resurgent’ Williams for 2022

While Williams has been struggling for a while now, it seems that good times are ahead for the outfit.

According to Lawrence Barretto, the outfit is doing well with George Russell driving for them. However, he also admits that he would love to see Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas join the outfit.

Williams has been finishing at the bottom of the constructors’ championship for the last three seasons.

Back in 2019, they managed to score a solitary point while in 2020, they were the only team without any points.

With new owners joining the outfit, the team hopes that things will change this season. as they fight their way back up the ladder.

Investments to boost the outfit

With substantial investment and a major flow of capital into the team, Williams hopes to become a force that can challenge the top outfits on the grid.

Williams can also become the place where a driver can go and get bigger and build a team.

According to Barretto, it is the ideal place for George Russell if he does not get a chance to drive for Mercedes.

”Russell would be a perfect fit for a team that wants to bring in drivers who bring performance, so Williams will do everything they can to keep him,” he said.

“Russell will also realise that Williams is a good place for him if he is put on hold again by Mercedes,” Barretto said in his column for Formula1.com.

Perez and Bottas for Williams?

The journalist also points out two names that could be ideal candidates to join the outfit.

”Williams could be an interesting option for the coming seasons,” he said.

“Last year the link with Sergio Perez was made a lot. Should his contract at Red Bull not be renewed, Williams could be an interesting option for him.

“If Valtteri Bottas loses his seat at Mercedes, a return to his old team is not a huge step back either,” Barretto added.
