Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag believes Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan hasn’t made much of an impact, particularly with his batting.
Morgan was signed by the Knights before the 2020 auction, and he was then named captain, succeeding Dinesh Karthik. Morgan has struggled to perform with the bat in hand but doing relatively well as captain.
Eoin Morgan scored 124 runs at an average of 12.40 and a strike rate of 102.47 in the first 15 games of IPL 2021. Morgan had the lowest batting average among the regular KKR batters.
Sehwag was adamant that the Knights will not be able to keep the England limited-overs captain in the blockbuster auction in 2022.
Sehwag discusses Morgan’s lack of form in IPL 2021
“KKR’s captain (Eoin Morgan) has not scored even 20-25 runs consistently. He has not contributed much.
“Last year, KKR changed their skipper midway, but I am not sure if they will retain him before the mega auction,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz Hindi.
“It will be interesting to see if he ever plays for Kolkata again because he has played for so many teams but he hasn’t done anything except talking.
“But when you are the captain, you need to score runs as well. We have not seen anything special from him so far,” he added.
Morgan’s performances in the IPL haven’t been particularly impressive, but he has won a slew of international awards for the Three Lions.
The southpaw led the British to their first 50-over World Cup win in 2019. They defeated New Zealand in the final at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
After the Super Overs were deadlocked, the game was decided by the boundary count rule.
Morgan will stay in the UAE after the IPL to compete in the T20 World Cup 2021. It will begin on October 17 held in Oman and the UAE.
Morgan also had a rough time in the first edition of The Hundred two months ago. He was the captain of the London Spirit, who did not go past the first round.
