In the last night of the IPL 2021, KKR will meet three-time champions Chennai Super Kings. Kolkata will take the final step after gaining a lot of confidence after defeating DC in a thrilling match.
Former cricketer and broadcaster Michael Vaughan remarked that a way must be made for all-rounder Andre Russell in the last game when discussing KKR’s set up in the finals.
Russell has been unable to play in KKR’s last five games owing to a hamstring injury. But he has begun bowling and batting in the practice session.
He’s likely to be in the mix for the championship match. In a similar vein, Vaughan stated that if Russell receives the admission ticket, he may take Shakib’s position.
However, the former England cricketer said that it wouldn’t surprise him if skipper Eoin Morgan dropped out. So as to make way for Russell.
Morgan has clearly had a poor showing with the bat in the IPL 2021. If a location must be built, Vaughan feels Morgan will just drop himself.
Vaughan thinks Morgan may be dropped
“They have to make a call on the pitch because when they played at Sharjah, they got used to the pitch, knew the conditions, and stuck with the team.
“Dubai might be a different proposition, it might be a different surface. If Andre Russell can bowl four overs, they may turn to change Shakib,” said Vaughan according to reports on Hindustan Times.
“You know, they may think that a left-arm spinner (won’t be required).
“Again, we’ll talk about Eoin Morgan (chuckles). I personally wouldn’t drop him, but do not be surprised if he drops himself) because I just know the character that he is.
“He will do what he feels is best for the team,” he added.
On October 15, KKR will be aiming for their third IPL crown. While MS Dhoni and his team will be aiming for their fourth.
