Daniel Ricciardo told to up his pace and match Lando Norris by race engineer

Daniel Ricciardo is still getting his hands dirty trying to understand his McLaren as his race engineer helps him out to be fast like Lando Norris.

The free practice session in France on Friday saw the engineer taking to the team radio to explain where the Australian can improve.

During the first practice session, the 31-year-old was sixth while his teammate was ninth. However, his rank dropped to 14th in the second session while Norris’ was 10th.

What did the engineer say?

“Daniel, I think it’s worth having another go. You are quick to the exit of turn nine, that bit’s very good, we lose three or four-tenths in turn eleven,” the engineer said.

“It looks like you lifted a little early, which I don’t know if that was related to traffic and the apex speed was a bit slow.

“Lando is one gear up in that corner, Lando picking up the throttle earlier, but more progressively. To have a higher apex speed,” he added.

Triple header to provide opportunities

Things have not been so good for Ricciardo at McLaren till now. However, the Perth-based driver is optimistic.

He discloses that the upcoming triple-header will allow him to get more used to his car and score the much-needed results.

His performance till now at Paul Ricard, however, has improved a lot as he hopes for a productive qualifying on Saturday.

Ricciardo is confident that he can bring home the points for himself and his team.
