Daniel Ricciardo: Why is he such a fan favourite despite never winning an F1 world championship?

Daniel Ricciardo is currently among the most popular driver on the Formula 1 grid today and has made a lasting impression since his debut in 2011.

Even though he has had the opportunity to race for five different teams, he is yet to score a title win.

With fans expecting him to win a world championship by now, the 31-year-old has had tough luck in that area.

So what makes him so popular?

One of the fastest on the grid

The Australian driver is not only an aggressive driver, but also highly mature at the same time.

His most popular trait is his braking style which he attempts at the very last millisecond. As a result, he has been given the title of ‘King of the late brakers.’

It is this driving style that pushes him into the league of top drivers.

Driving for Red Bull

Ricciardo signed up for Red Bull back in 2014 and was teamed up with Sebastian Vettel who had just earned his fourth world championship.

The Australian, however, managed to finish third in the driver’s standings that year and took three of his seven career wins with 238 points.

His performance with Red Bull is a good reminder for his critics on the capability of the Australian.

Peppy personality

Ricciardo is also well-known for his jovial and peppy personality which helps many relate to him. Most of his teams used him for creating social media content from posts to YouTube videos.

He is also known for his hilarious responses during interviews and is also the central figure in Netflix’s Drive To Survive series. His presence on the paddock makes things light-hearted in an otherwise serious atmosphere.

Additionally, he is also one of the friendliest drivers on the grid with almost no one having any beef with him.

We hope we get to see more of the Honey Badger’s ‘shoeys’.
