David Marshall Coulthard is a former Scottish Formula One driver; later turned a commentator and journalist. ‘DC’ had competed 15 seasons of Formula One between 1994 and 2008. He has won 13 Grand prix and 62 podium finishes.
The racer had represented Williams, McLaren, Red Bull during his career.
Coulthard was born on the 27th March 1971 in Twynholm, Scotland. He belongs to a family of racers. Coulthard’s grandfather was a racer and had competed in the Monte Carlo Rally. His father on the other hand was a National Champion in karting.
He has won several local karting championships including the Scottish junior Kart Championship and the Scottish Kart Championship. Coulthard made his transition from karting to racing in the year 1989.
He is also the first recipient of the McLaren Autosport Young Driver of the Year award.
Coulthard started his Formula One career with the Williams Grand Prix Engineering team as a test driver. He made his debut as a racer in Spain.
However, due to certain offs with the Williams team, the racer left the team and partnered with Mika Hakkinen at Mclaren. He had a number of records with the McLaren team.
The racer later went on to represent Red bull who had recently purchased the Jaguar team in 2005. The driver signed a 1-year deal for a reportedly £1.8 million. He drove alongside Christian Klien.
after signing off from his racing career, Coulthard went on to join BBC as a commentator for the broadcaster’s Formula 1 race coverages. He later left BBC to join Channel 4.
Coulthard has lived in Monaco for some time and also has houses in London, Belgium, and Switzerland. He owns many luxury hotels in the United Kingdom and was previously the owner of the Columbus Hotel Monaco, which is located in Monaco’s Fontvieille district.
Coulthard represents Mercedes-Benz as a Brand Ambassador. He worked on the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG’s development. He owns a midnight blue (904G) 1971 Mercedes-Benz W113 280 SL that was built on his birthday.
David Coulthard is reportedly worth around $80 million.
