In that regard, Alfa Romeo need a new driver if that were to be true. The team has always maintained that Raikkonen could retire on his terms, and they would respect his decision.

Many names have been linked with the Alfa Romeo seat, including Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas. As reported by Formula Nerds, Alfa Romeo is set to announce their new driver at Monza. Spoiled for choice

The replacement for Raikkonen is most likely to be Callum Ilott and the aforementioned Bottas. The former is currently Alfa Romeo’s reserve driver, and has raced with the team during many practice sessions. However, Alfa Romeo Team Principal Fred Vasseur has mentioned that the team will wait for the other teams on the grid to make moves.

Sky Italy has also announced that Mercedes might announce their decision at Monza. If the German team signs Russell, Bottas is officially available. As such, Alfa Romeo will be going all in for Raikkonen’s countryman in Bottas. Bottas is a multi-race winner, and his experience, pace and knowledge of Mercedes will be of great importance to the Italian team.

However, in another twist, Bottas had recently posted a story containing a picture of his Mercedes Black Series in a W11 livery. His teammate Lewis Hamilton also received one, and fans speculated that the two might race together next season as well.
