Alonso calls out Masi again for employing double standards – “He is too soft!”

Fernando Alonso called out Michael Masi again, saying that he is too indecisive to be leading the FIA.

Alonso versus the FIA has been one of the sleeper hits this season, and he was at it again in the UAE. The 40-year-old was blocked by Daniel Ricciardo during qualifying, a situation that cost him a Q3 appearance.

The two-time world champion was approaching the business end of his hot lap. However, the McLaren driver emerged from the pit lane and appeared in front of him, thereby ending his effort.

Quite comically, it was the Australian who pipped the Alpine driver to Q3, something the latter didn’t find funny. Alonso called out Masi once again, and proceeded to tear him a new one.

As quoted by express.co.uk, when asked about the Ricciardo incident, Alonso fumed and replied, “Unfortunately, we don’t have anybody policing this.

“Race director (Masi) is too soft. If you let us play with the outlaps, it’s always going to be a mess. We need a referee to protect us and at the moment, we don’t have it.

“Then on the traffic itself, it’s McLaren’s fault, the team or driver whatever. Even if there’s a lot of traffic on the outlap, you need to move when a fast car is coming. He didn’t move.

Double standards

Alonso brought up his colleague Sebastian Vettel, who was given a three-place penalty for blocking him in Austria.

“In Austria, Vettel got three places so I expect three places minimum or more (for Ricciardo),” he added.

“Our team is very sharp on telling us when a faster car is coming, so I had zero investigations for impeding in the whole year, so you also have to be sharp.

“The people that are not sharp are investigated. Normally they get the penalty, but this is another thing, it’s very random.”
