Bianca Andreescu is set to miss the Australian Open, citing personal reasons for the news.
The Canadian announced on Monday that she won’t play in the Australian Open. She joins a long list of high-profile stars who will miss the tournament, allowing it to be one for an outside bet winner.
The 21-year-old has had to spend time in quarantine and watch her grandmother battle COVID-19. Her grandparent was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit. All of these took a toll on her, and subsequently, she wants to take a break and come back stronger.
Andreescu is set to miss the Australian Open, and announced that she would be doing so due to personal reasons.
Taking to her Twitter account, the youngster wrote, “A lot of days, I did not feel like myself, especially while I was training and/or playing matches.
“I felt like I was carrying the world on my shoulders.

“I could not detach myself from everything that was going on off the court; was feeling the collective sadness and turmoil around and it took it’s toll on me (sic). I want to give myself time to re-set, recover and grow from this.…”
Last time out
Andreescu was last seen at Indian Wells in October. One has to go back all the way to the 2019 US Open for her last victory.
Her most recent great result was reaching the final of the 2021 Miami Open, where she reached the final in a heroic effort before losing out to World Number 1 Ashleigh Barty.
The former World Number 4 will look to bounce back on her return to competitive action. For now, we wish all her worries vanish and she returns with a bang.
