Bencic convinced Federer is still at the top of his game – “He can be the best at any time”

WTA player Belinda Bencic remains convinced that Roger Federer is still at the top of the tennis mountain, saying that he could flip the switch on at any moment.

Federer is one of the greatest to have ever graced a tennis court. In recent times, however, he has slowed down a little bit. While his performances remain classy and considered, there is no doubt that injuries and age have started to catch up to him.

The Swiss ace is currently sidelined due to injury. He has said that that he could be back by the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, but many are convinced that he could have won his last Grand Slam.

However, Bencic remains convinced that Federer is still at the top of the tennis mountain, and that fans could write him off at their own peril.

“People have written Roger Federer off so many times already, but he always keeps coming back,” she said, as quoted by Tennis World USA.

“He has proved so many times that he is one of the best three players in the world. I definitely hope he will get back healthy and play tennis tournaments again.

“I think the tennis world needs him to play. I definitely think he can be the best at any time.”

A win means a lot

Thanasi Kokkinakis beat Arthur Rinderknech in a stunning comeback, and was congratulated by Federer. The win ensured he won his first ATP title, and he was ecstatic for the victory and for Federer’s praise.

“When I saw that final ball go long, I don’t think I felt emotions like that,” he said.

“You grow up playing, you never know if it’s ever going to happen.

“Just many, many emotions. Just relief. Happy. Not just for myself and the work I did, but for everyone who supported me. They see me at my lowest points.”
