Bottas sends message to Zhou ahead of 2022 – “We need to work as a team”

New Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas sent a message to his rookie teammate Guanyu Zhou, saying that 2022 called for cooperation.

Alfa Romeo had both their drivers leave at the end of 2021. Their moves in the drivers’ market saw Chinese rookie Zhou join after they completed the mega move of Bottas from Mercedes.

With an entirely new driver lineup, it is a fresh start for the Italian team. They have the perfect mixture of youth and experience in their two new drivers, and on paper should pose a good challenge.

Ahead of 2022, Bottas sent a message to Zhou urging him to work together to have great debut seasons for Alfa Romeo.

As quoted by Racingnews365.com, the Finn said, “With any Formula 1 team, when you join, you have so many smart people to guide you, (to) help you.

“Obviously me as a teammate, I’m trying to help him as well, because we need to work as a team, and we need to be the team that will hopefully bring lots of points and good results in the right direction.

“So (I’m) looking forward to it.”

Involvement

Bottas also shed light on the dynamic at his new team, and said that there is a great level of trust and respect between everyone involved.

When asked if his opinion was considered regrading who he wanted as a teammate, the 10-time race winner said, “I got some updates, like (with) what’s going on, what’s most likely going to happen, and before, obviously, it was announced.

“But the information, I left it to Fred (Vasseur, team principal) completely. I trust him (to decide) what is best for the team, and that’s how it ended up.”
