Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz enjoyed a positive working relationship with former boss Mattia Binotto.
Many believe that Binotto’s strategical calls were often made prioritising Sainz and worked against Charles Leclerc.
With the new appointment, it is reckoned that Leclerc’s strong relationship with Frederick Vasseur from their days at Sauber will tilt the scales in his favour.
It is easy for Sainz to be worried by the new association, especially since he is under pressure following a far from remarkable 2022 season.
However, the Spanish driver said that this won’t put him at a disadvantage and will rather be “useful” for Ferrari.
“From what they’ve told me and from what I know, I think he’s the right man,” Sainz said.
“Everyone in the paddock knows him and I’m sure he’ll do well.
“There will be an adjustment period, but Fred knows Formula 1 very well and also Ferrari. Now there will be this preparation phase before we start working fully with him.”
Sainz doesn’t think he has reason enough to doubt that the new Ferrari boss will be partial towards his teammate Leclerc.
“I don’t think I’m starting from scratch,” he said.
“I’m sure I’ll get on well with him and he’ll be happy with me when he sees me work, with my relationship with the team and with Charles.
“I think his well-tested relationship with Leclerc will be very useful to everyone, also to accelerate his adaptation here.”
