Amongst those that regularly follow Netflix, Daniel Ricciardo has long been seen as one of the most popular drivers of the sport.
The Australian driver may not have the racing accolades that you would associate with some of the big names of motorsport, but his affable personality has seen his popularity soar ever since he started his career over a decade ago.
However, the driver himself believes that his latest role in ‘Drive the Dream with Daniel Ricciardo’, where he is seen with his best friend Blake, is largely to dow ith the new fans he achieved through the Netflix docuseries Drive to Survive.
The Perth-based driver earned a hefty $3,600,000 through this tourism promotion.
In the teaser video, Ricciardo can be seen talking to Blake and explaining how he initially found it tough to do such acts, but how Drive to Survive has changed the game for him in terms of finding a massive audiece, according to Perth Now.
“How long have we been talking about this?” Ricciardo is asked by Blake, referring to a road trip.
“I believe when we were about maybe 20, 21,” Ricciardo answers.
Western Australia is known for its sceneic road trip routes and has become very popular amongst tourists for this reason.
It appears like the video has been quite a hit already, garnering over 66k views within the first 24 hours of its release.
Ricciardo believes that this success has a lot to do with Drive to Survive and the way he was portrayed in front of the public, many of whom didn’t know much about him before watching the show.
“Drive to Survive definitely changed a lot. In certain parts of the world, F1 was the biggest sport in the world but you would go to other cities… and no one would even know what F1 is,” Ricciardo said.
“From that to now being really sometimes like chased in the street in cities that didn’t probably know what Formula One was six or seven years ago, that’s been the biggest change.”
As things stand, Ricciardo is still recovering from a hand injury that he sustained while driving for AlphaTauri, with uncertainty over his exact return date.
