Stefano Domenicali has said that F1 was called up by many countries asking to host a GP at their circuits.
F1 will expand in the upcoming season, and will feature 23 races. To put this into context, there were only 19 in 2010. Since then, they have done their globetrotting and increased the number of races.
Recent additions have been confirmed in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Miami. There are more places on F1’s radar, and they are set to explore those options in the future.
Domenicali said that F1 was called up by many countries asking to host a GP at their circuits, and that he is very pleased to see the reach of the sport.
“Next year will see the arrival of a new experience in Miami, and that comes after the addition of two new venues in Qatar and Saudi Arabia this year,” Domenicali said, as quoted by GP Fans.
“To have three new events in the space of six months shows the sport is in a strong place.
“We have so many requests to host a grand prix. It shows our platform is attractive with more and more governments seeing it as an opportunity to develop their businesses, local economy and awareness of their community. Exciting times ahead.”
Diversity
F1 is yet to confirm a race in Africa. However, Domenicali assured that plans for one in the African continent are on. He also stated that
“Regarding the future beyond 2022, there will be some other good news coming out soon, which I don’t want to spoil by saying now,” he continued.
“We are going in the right direction and have reached a point where we can choose where F1 will go in the future.”
