Fans started a petition to award the world championship to Lewis Hamilton following the events of the Abu Dhabi GP.
Hamilton had the championship yanked away from him thanks to a dubious and shambolic decision from the racing authorities. Outrage poured in from all corners, both from Hamilton fans and their opposite camp.
The 36-year-old was denied a record-breaking eighth world title because of a shocking decision that was a rule-break. It left a sour taste in the mouths of people, including those who don’t like him.
As a result, some fans started a petition to award the world championship to Hamilton.
Spotted on change.org, the petition was started by frustrated fans who believe that the final lap of the race should have seen the Mercedes driver cross the line first and become champion.

The person who created the petition wrote, “Overturn the decision of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Lewis should be the winner.
“I believe justice was not served on Sunday December 12 2021, when the FIA stewards denied Lewis Hamilton his win of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. With less than one lap remaining, some lapped cars were allowed to pass the safety car, which does not comply with the rules of the F1 sport.
“If you are an advocate of justice, honesty and fairness, please sign this petition. Leaving this decision as it stands will send a very wrong message to youngsters and future racers.”
Fans rallied behind it, with the petition amassing over 17,000 signatures. They were all from those who were disgusted at the FIA for catering to drama and spectacle instead of the rules.
There is still the possibility that it gets enough signatures to become something significant. We will have to wait and see.
