Ferrari reveals stance regarding new Sainz contract – “Want to see what we can do to make him happy”

Ferrari revealed their stance regarding a new Carlos Sainz contract, saying that they were fully confident the driver was going to commit.

Sainz joined Ferrari in 2021 from McLaren, replacing the departing Sebastian Vettel. He exceeded all expectations and brought a much-needed consistency in point-scoring to the team, something that was missing in 2020.

With him in their ranks, the Scuderia clinched P3 in the Constructors’ Championship. On a personal level, he took P5 in the Drivers’ Championship, earning the unofficial title of best of the rest in 2021.

Due to his strong performances, Ferrari revealed their positive stance regarding a new Sainz contract, saying that both parties were very much interested.

As quoted by Formula1news.co.uk, Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto said, “It will be, I think, an easy discussion, no doubt, but so far we have not started.

“I would like to sit down with him, I’ve not started yet the discussion with him.

“I don’t know what he’s got in mind as well as him, Carlos, as a driver. So today, there is not an answer to that.”

“First I would like to understand what we can do to make him happy, have a review of him with the season and look together to the future,” the Italian continued.

“As we said I think in the last race, we will discuss through the winter time the extension of his contract.

“We’ll sit down with time and try to understand. Certainly I think he did very well during the season, (we are) very happy the way that he has integrated, the way that he has been performing on-track and during the race weekends.

“So no doubt that we’ll sit down and try to find an agreement. That will be part of the winter period,” he concluded.
