Nyck de Vries may be new to the F1 circuit, but he is still more than acquainted with Mercedes driver George Russell, who had dated his sister Seychelles de Vries in the past.
Russell enjoyed a consistent season with Mercedes and recorded his first Grand Prix win during the 2022 campaign.
He ended the year finishing ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton in fourth position, with the seven-time world champion failing to win a single race in the season for the first time in his illustrious career.
As far as his personal life is concerned, George is believed to be dating Carmen Montero Mundt. His previous relationship, though, could lead to some heated exchanges on the track.
Before Carmen, George was going stead with Seychelle de Vries, whom he met during his Formula 2 days in 2018.
While there was naturally far less paparazzi around Russell back then, the couple would often share pictures together on social media.
While it was an amicable split between the two, Nyck and George still have other scores to settle.
George and Nyck’s rivalry
Nyck and George were both part of the Mercedes Young Driver Programme and for a while, there seemed limited options on the table for the Dutchman, who at 28, spent more time waiting in the wings for an F1 opportunity than he may have initially imagined.
However, when the situation presented itself, the Dutchman found a full-time seat at AlphaTauri for this season.
He was able to showcase his abilities when he replaced Alex Albon during the Italian Grand Prix last year after the former was diagnosed with appendicitis.
Nyck managed to prove that he wasn’t merely there to make up the numbers and finished the race in nith position and earned valuable points for his team.
He was even voted Driver of the Day by fans and this almost vindicated the ‘talent’ that local Dutch reporters had spent so many years writing about.
It will be a long season and there is no doubt that George and Nyck will go wheel-to-wheel at some stage.
However, this time around, it will be Mundt and not Seychelles de Vries, who will be seen attending every race.
