Hamilton warned not to forget unsettled debt – “F1 needed someone with colour, a Chinese and a woman”

Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has been in the news often for his controversial take on things and he is back with yet another startling revelation from the time when he was managing the sport.

Recently, Ecclestone had claimed to be “ready to take a bullet” for Vladimir Putin and also said that seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton is “full of rubbish”.

Now, the 91-year-old has made a remarkable claim about how he was willing to personally pay for Hamilton’s salary due to a rather strange reason.

Coming on the back of even defending former three-time champion Nelson Piquet after his racist slur against Hamilton, Ecclestone told Swiss publication Blick that he is not sensitive enough.

“Yes, maybe I’m not sensitive enough,” Ecclestone said.

“I see many things differently, and I say them because I was asked so nicely.

“But I do stand by one statement – Putin was always fair to Formula 1. And I can’t say that about all the promoters.”

Ecclestone said that Hamilton needs to be very careful about the words he uses against him.

The former F1 boss said that he even footed part of Hamilton’s salary when he joined Mercedes as the sport needs “a person of colour, a Chinese and a woman”.

“Lewis has forgotten a lot,” he said.

“When Mercedes didn’t pay him what he asked for, I immediately said I’d pay the difference. Because Formula 1 needs a person of colour, a Chinese and a woman.”
