Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner is hopeful that Alex Albon can join Williams without severing Red Bull ties.
Albon has a contract with Red Bull, and Williams is one of the teams that is not affiliated with them. As such, Albon moving to Williams is more complicated than other moves. There are talks of releasing him from the Red Bull contract so that he can join Williams. Horner has reacted to such rumours, and is hopeful Albon can join Williams without severing Red Bull ties.
“Maybe we don’t. We’ve had very productive discussions with Williams and with Alfa, and I expect the situation to hopefully be resolved in the next week or so,” Horner said, as reported by RaceFans.
“I think his preference would be Williams. But it’s great that there’s interest in him, and I think it would be good to see him in back in a race seat.”

The situation hasn’t been resolved yet, with Albon still very much a Red Bull reserve driver. However, there is now a vacancy at Williams. George Russell moved to Mercedes, which means the door is open for Albon.
Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto said teams shouldn’t hold influence over their customer teams and have a say on which drivers they wish to sign.
“I believe that whatever is happening between a team and a driver that’s between the team and a driver and as manufacturers, we should not influence,” Binotto said.
“I think that would be wrong. If a driver has got an opportunity to drive, he should simply have an opportunity to drive, wherever it is coming from. And if the team is happy to give him a seat, they need to give him a seat. That’s it.”
