There is no secret when it comes to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner’s interest in securing Lando Norris’ signature to set up a dream partnership alongside reigning world champion Max Verstappen.
However, Norris keeps shutting down all advances made by Horner and has been rather loyal to McLaren despite the team failing to break into the top-3 constructors.
Norris may have rebuked all approaches from Horner in the past, but it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t feel flattered to be courted by the Red Bull boss.
While the praises are flying for Lando and we have also credited his loyalty, it is worth acknowledging the fact that he is yet to win a single GP since entering the sport five seasons ago.
McLaren, too, deserves credit for sticking with the young gun despite his undeniable talent.
Lando was recently seen in a video for Quadrant where he was discussing various Drive to Survive clips, but one regarding Horner’s interest in Norris was put under the scanner.
In a sneak peek of the video, Horner can be seen praising “good-looking young lad” Lando.
Horner then says: “He’s driving the wheels off the car, he’s funny…”
A friend of Norris who was watching the clips with him burst out: “Jesus mate, just sign the contract with him now!”
Norris gave a look of approval.
Lando is F1’s poster boy for loyalty
Red Bull has courted Norris in the past, but to no avail.
With the sports drink company now well and truly establishing itself as a frontrunner on the track, is it worthwhile for Lando to reconsider his position at McLaren?
Lando has discussed the importance of a “family feeling” that he has at McLaren for being the main motivator to extending his stay. The young Briton has also spoken about how he wishes to repay the faith that the Papaya-Orange has shown in him.
In many ways, he is the poster kid for loyalty in the sport and McLaren knows that it has an exceptionally talented driver on its hands.
However, with interest from Red Bull unlikely to dissipate soon, would it be in Lando’s best interest to take Horner up on his offer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
