Charles Leclerc is ecstatic with his Monza P4 after a dramatic home race in Italy.
In a race where Leclerc and Ferrari were written off, he was 2.3 seconds away from a miraculous podium. Leclerc finished P4 after starting a place down. It was an impressive performance from him, and he was in a joyous mood afterwards. He explained his drive, and was ecstatic with his Monza P4.
“I gave it all, really everything,” Leclerc said, as reported by f1i.com.
“There was not much more (we could) do today. I mean, every opportunity there was, I tried to take it
“As soon as Valtteri passed me, I tried to overtake him again. And I succeeded, but they were just too quick, especially (in the) third sector and into Turn 1, and it made us very, very vulnerable to overtaking. So, it was very, very difficult for us to overtake and very easy to get overtaken.”
Great fight
Leclerc started the race in fifth position, and given the cars ahead of and behind him, did extremely well to hold on in the slower Ferrari. He ultimately ended up finishing in the same position, but moved a place higher thanks to Sergio Perez’s penalty. With his teammate Carlos Sainz finishing right behind him, Ferrari managed to take good points away.
“It wasn’t the easiest of races, but at the end if you look at where we were last year and where we were now, it’s a big step forward,” Leclerc said.
“We need to keep working like this. On my own performance, honestly, I rate it as (one of) my top five performances in Formula 1.
“I really felt like I had given absolutely everything, so on that, I’m happy. But we need to keep working to be fighting for the win very soon,” he concluded.
