Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has confessed that it was Lewis Hamilton who took the call of ending his long-time partnership with personal assistant Angela Cullen.
Hamilton announced his decision over Instagram, where he paid tribute to one of his closest friends.
This ended a seven-year partnership between the duo and it was iconic to say the least. They were so close that Hamilton even confessed that they were ‘practically living together‘.
Prior to working as Hamilton’s personal assistant, Cullen served as his physiotherapist.
She also penned an emotional message hours after Hamilton’s post, where she discussed the time they spent together.
The fact that both of them posted such emotional messages suggested that the decision was mutual, but Wolff has made a strong admission that it was actually Hamilton who called the shots.
“Angela has and will always be a mascot of the team – she’s the only one who has a louder voice than a starting car,” Wolff joked.
“But if this is what he decides, we will always absolutely support him. Whatever direction he wants to take.
“Angela was part of the gang for a long time. And I think in every team, whether that is his close circle, also in the wider group, this is not a static situation that you can freeze because we all developers.
“As people we develop as an organisation and if things don’t work out anymore, then we need to be honest about it. And then bring change.”
