Helmut Marko accused the FIA of showing favouritism towards Mercedes, saying that all the crucial decisions went their way.
The FIA have been mediating feuds between Red Bull and Mercedes for the entire season. Many blame games, accusations and cries of foul play have taken place, and stranded in the middle are the stewards.
Mercedes have been champions seven times in the last seven years. They also supply engines across the grid, and are subsequently one of the biggest players on the paddock.
Marko accused the FIA of showing favoritism towards Mercedes, and said that the fact that they seem to win every appeal is a little strange.
“If the protest doesn’t come from Mercedes itself, then a team that is close to Mercedes will be put forward. One time McLaren had ago and then it was Aston Martin,” he said, as quoted by grandprix247.com.
“We had the feeling that there was a certain one-sidedness to the process, but we have now had several conversations with the FIA and also with Liberty, so it is ‘part of the game’ I would say.”
Hit, but no low blows
The battle between Mercedes and Red Bull has been raging on and off the track. The team personnel have been doing everything to get into each other’s heads throughout the season.
Marko gave his thoughts on political battles in F1, and said that as long as it isn’t unacceptable claims, it is still fine.
“As long as it is not below the belt, that is also part of it in my view,” he continued.
“You support your own driver of course and yes, with that you discredit the rival to a certain extent but okay: that is logical in itself, as long as it is within limits.”
