Marko issues update on Newey’s return from bike crash – “He is ready to do his job”

Helmut Marko has issued an update on Adrian Newey’s return from his bike crash, saying he has come back to give his best for Red Bull.

Newey is the Chief Technical Officer of Red Bull, and has been instrumental in every ounce of success Red Bull have achieved over the years. However, he suffered a bike crash recently, and has been absent from the team recently.

Marko issued an update on Newey’s return from his crash, and said that his absence has been felt by the Milton-Keynes team.

“We are well-positioned, but of course Newey is the figurehead,” the Austrian told Sky Deutschland, as quoted by Planet F1.

“And his absence just from motivation is seen, and in the early stages we didn’t know how serious the injury is. He had to go through several operations.”

Red Bull have been in a bit of a slump recently. Their rivals Mercedes are now the favourites to win the championships up for grabs. Newey’s return could boost their hopes, and help them recover their fortunes.

“He is now not fully fit but is ready to do his job and has immediately recognised the difficulties we had here (in Turkey) in terms of set-up,” Marko added.

“There will be a meeting with Verstappen in the upcoming week in Milton Keynes so that we are back on top in terms of the chassis.”

Newey’s expertise is being sought after by teams like Aston Martin. Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner said that Newey won’t be going anywhere, and that he signed a new contract with the team.

“Adrian is happy with us and has extended his contract,” Horner said. “He spent 16 years at Red Bull, loves our approach to work and remains super motivated.”
