“What I do privately is nobody’s business”: Max Verstappen makes shaky confession about life away from F1

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen is known to keep a quiet profile on social media and he feels whatever happens in his private life is “nobody’s business”.

Verstappen has enjoyed the best years of his career in recent times, with the Dutchman winning three successive F1 world championships. He is very clearly the most coveted driver on the track, having finished last season with 19 wins out of a possible 22 Grand Prix.

While plenty of pundits have started debating whether he is amongst the best drivers to have ever graced the sport, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has claimed that this added spotlight is making Verstappen ‘uncomfortable’.

As a result, he prefers not to engage too much on social media and strictly stays away from all F1-related content, preferring to enjoy time away from anyone associated with the sport. The 26-yer-old driver even refuses to discuss anything related to motorsport with his girlfriend Kelly Piquet’s dad Nelson, despite his heroics in the world of motorsport.

“What I do privately, it’s nobody’s business,” Verstappen said.

“I don’t follow that many Formula 1-related accounts or people anyway. I consciously ignore a lot of Formula 1 news, then at some point it doesn’t pass by in my timeline either.

“Actually, I only follow other sports and athletes, also to get balance in my life that way. I don’t want – and especially when I’m at home – to know everything that’s going on in the paddock.”

However, with the upcoming season set to begin with car reveals starting next month, Verstappen knows he will soon have to tune back into the world of motorsport as he looks to add another world championship to his achievements.
