McLaren reveals latest addition who could fill in for Ricciardo or Norris

Paul di Resta, a former Formula One driver, has been added to McLaren’s reserve driver pool.

This season, McLaren has agreed to share the Silver Arrows’ two reserve drivers – Stoffel Vandoorne and Nyck de Vries – with the Mercedes F1 Team, but di Resta gives them another alternative if they are unavailable due to Formula E obligations.

There are three clashes on the current F1 and Formula E schedules for 2021, therefore if Daniel Ricciardo or Lando Norris are unable to race in any of these races, di Resta might step in.

What did Andreas Seidl say?

“My focus is on this agreement we have with Mercedes,” Andreas Seidl said as per reports on Formula1News.

“We have a good relationship also with Paul di Resta, who is also in possession of a Super Licence,

“So we have an agreement with him as well in order to jump in if the requirement is there.

“So we are prepared for different scenarios,” he added.

Di Resta last raced in Formula One in the 2017 Hungarian Grand Prix, replacing Felipe Massa at Williams.

Di Resta has raced sportscars and has been a part of Sky F1’s coverage since departing from the top of motorsport.
