McLaren revealed that they were pleased with Lando Norris signing a contract extension, saying he was integral in their return to the top.
McLaren is one of the greatest teams to have raced in F1. Multiple world championships, tons of victories and pole positions and some great drivers only tell part of the story.
However, the team went into freefall in the 2010s. Lewis Hamilton’s reliability issues in 2012 kicked off a series of terrible incidents for the team, with their fortunes taking a nosedive in no time.
As a result, McLaren revealed that they were pleased with Norris signing a contract extension with the team, as retaining him was instrumental in their rise to glory again.
As quoted by Racingnews365.com, McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl said, “The opportunity to extend our relationship with Lando reflects not only our commitment but our belief and confidence in his talent.
“It is also a strong sign of trust and commitment from Lando in us as a team and our journey to World Championship contention.”
Part of the project
“Lando has shown impressive growth as a Formula 1 driver over the past four years and has been an instrumental part of the team’s momentum and performance trajectory,” he added.
“We are still on our journey to fight at the front and Lando is a key element of our plan.
“To lock him into place, alongside Daniel and our senior leadership, gives us stability and continuity as we build towards our ultimate shared goal of World Championships.”
With Norris and Daniel Ricciardo both on multi-year contracts, the team is set to compete without any haggles for the near future.
