Mercedes have been slammed for their new sponsorship deal with Kingspan, with the partner’s terrible history drawing the ire of their victims.
The F1 giants signed a deal with the insulation company. However, Kingspan has a very troubling history, and that is being responsible for the deaths of 72 people in an accident that was entirely avoidable.
The incident in question is the tragic Grenfell Tower insulation. Kingspan had installed the K15 insulation on the building. Tragically, it was coated in flammable material, and the tower caught fire in June 2017 and killed 72 people.
It was a disaster on all fronts, and Kingspan’s reputation took a big nosedive on the financial and moral aspect of things. With them now signing a deal with the seven-time champions, shockwaves were sent across the world.
Mercedes was slammed for their new sponsorship deal with Kingspan, and were sent multiple formal requests asking them to pull out of it.
Taking to Twitter, Grenfell United group posted the letter they sent to Mercedes, and captioned it, “This news has shattered us.”
“Kingspan is rotten to the core ‘little better than crooks & killers’,” the letter read.
This news has shattered us. @KingspanIP_UK is rotten to the core ‘little better than crooks & killers’. No remorse, or responsibility for the murder of our 72. Only greed & recklessness for human life.

Put money aside
Mercedes were also sent formal requests by many people closely associated with the tragedy, and asked them to put the lives of those who perished and the grief suffered by their near and dear ones over the lucrative deal.
Asking about the partnership, Oliver Dowden, Chairman of the Conservative Party, said, “I think Mercedes need to think carefully about their sponsor.
“And if that is the case that the company concerned is culpable in that way, then of course they should think very carefully about whether (Kingspan) are inappropriate sponsors for them. Just as they think carefully about tobacco companies and others.”
