Mick Schumacher shown Red Bull entry gate with Max Verstappen partnership lure after Ferrari cold shoulder

Mick Schumacher is set to cut ties with Ferrari after Haas made it public that they would not be extending his stay beyond the current season.

This has cast a huge doubt on Mick’s future in the sport, despite his friend Esteban Ocon holding conversations with the Alpine hierarchy over offering the German a seat next year.

While it hasn’t turned out to be the fairytale that Mick may have imagined given his father Michael Schumacher’s illustrious career at Ferrari, the German has been pushed to join Red Bull’s sister team AlphaTauri in a bid to race alongside Max Verstappen in the future.

While Haas will not be giving Mick an extension, there is still some uncertainty over whether Mick will be axed altogether by the Ferrari Driver Academy.

Two-time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi believes joining the Red Bull driver programme could be the best option for Mick as it will allow him a chance to scale similar heights to his father.

As things stand, there is some speculation that AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly will not be at the team much longer.

Not only was the Frenchman told by the Red Bull management that he will never get a chance to race for them, he was also caught on Ferrari’s Youtube channel apparently discussing details of a deal with Alpine.

“AlphaTauri is a competitive team and they’re getting better and better,” Fittipaldi told VegasInsider.

“I’m trying to compare if Mick goes there and it’s hard to compare him to [Gasly and Tsunoda]. I know Gasly is fast but to what level?

“If Mick joins one of the two, it could be a positive surprise there because he’s been improving. In the last few grands prix, he’s done really well.

“AlphaTauri is doing well. Franz Tost is a very good guy.

“He is a former racer. He’s developed some amazing drivers. I can see if they pick up Mick because they know he has potential.”

If Mick does indeed make an impact at AlphaTauri, his attractiveness to sponsors is undeniable and it could facilitate a future seat alongside Verstappen.
