Lando Norris made a huge claim regarding the 2022 cars, saying that they may not be as exciting to drive.
The next season will see a major overhaul to the sport as the new regulations are implemented. It is almost a certainty that the cars will also be very different, and if the McLaren driver is to be believed, they won’t be as good as before.
The new regulations want to make close racing more of a reality than it actually is these days. It will be done through aero tweaks. While it will most likely be achieved, whether the car is fun to drive or not is another matter.
Norris made a huge claim regarding the 2022 cars, and hinted that they weren’t as exciting in his opinion.
Speaking to Autosport, he said, “Definitely there will be a slightly different style.
“I don’t think it’ll be as nice to drive in a way. I think it’ll be a little bit more on the limit in terms of pushing and so on.
“A little bit like F2 in a way, I think, where you see more fighting the car and stuff.”
Certain? Not really
However, Norris didn’t commit to his prediction, and admitted that it was just his hunch.
“But I could be wrong because things are always changing,” he continued.
“It’s like what I drove one month ago is going to be quite very different to what I drive now, and it’s going be very different probably again when we get to the first race.”
“It’s still early in development so the car’s always changing a little bit week-by-week. I think more because it is a ground effect car, rather than everything coming from the front and rear wing.
“There’s also no mid deflector and all this crap that we have now. All of that is gone.
“So then that just changes a little bit the way the car feels and is to drive. And then how you have to set it up and stuff is also quite different,” he concluded.
