Ocon says 2022 Alpine car will be much quicker

Esteban Ocon has dropped a major update on Alpine’s 2022 car.

The new regulations introduced by F1 will come into effect at the start of the next season. These rules will change the complexion of the sport. Cars will be better under dirty air, and will also have new 18-inch tyres.

As a result, teams will have to adapt and produce cars that are competitive under these rules.

Ocon mentioned that he will be trying the new car in the simulator next week. Unlike his teammate Fernando Alonso, who did it this week, Ocon skipped the session to prepare for the Italian GP. He dropped a major update on the car, however, and promised a faster car for next season.

As reported by Motorsport.it, Ocon said, “Not me, but Fernando has already tried it.

“I drove the 2021 car in the simulator to prepare for the Spa – Zandvoort – Monza hat-trick. I think I’ll try it next week.

“It will be a faster car to drive. Usually, when there is a twist of the rules at the beginning, it is slower, but then, with the development, the teams are able to recover that deficit within the year. I hope we will be really competitive,” he said.

Ocon knows how it feels

Ocon was then asked about Alex Albon signing for Williams for the 2022 season. It will be after a year on the fringes that Albon will be returning to the sport. Ocon explained that he knows how Albon feels, and welcomed the Thai driver for his second stint.

“It’s the worst thing that can happen in a driver’s career,” Ocon said.

“It was difficult for me to see the others do good results on the track while I didn’t have the chance to prove my worth and I didn’t know if I would be able to return. I’m really happy for Alex, he’s a good guy who has had a great career so far and I wish him the best,” he concluded.
