Ocon makes terrible admission regarding AlphaTauri – “On paper we can’t beat them”

Esteban Ocon has made a terrible admission regarding AlphaTauri, and conceded that they can’t match their pace.

Ocon races for Alpine, and they are engaged in a contest with AlphaTauri in the Constructors’ Championship. It is him and Fernando Alonso versus Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda.

The US GP saw both Alpine drivers retire from the race. It marked the first time Alpine complete a race weekend without any points since the first race of the season.

The gap between Alpine and AlphaTauri is now just 10 points. The points the French team has gained have been split evenly between Ocon and Alonso, while Gasly has been scoring the majority of the points at the Red Bull junior team.

Ocon made a terrible admission regarding AlphaTauri, and conceded that they can’t match the pace their rivals are displaying.

“The fact we finish in the points with both cars makes the difference,” Ocon said, as quoted by Planet F1.

“We always scored two, three, one point and were in the top 10 with both cars when possible.

“We can only focus on ourselves and try to do our best. On paper we can’t beat them, but we are giving it our all to make sure we get both cars in the points every time and be consistent.

“We didn’t score any points this weekend, but we scored 16 in a row as a team before. But I see no reason why we can’t get back into a good rhythm and perform well. I’m sure we’ll be in good shape again soon.”

Two versus one

The crucial aspect of the rivalry is the two versus one situation. Ocon and Alonso are sharing the burden, while Gasly has been doing the heavy-lifting for his team.

It will be crucial for both teams to outdo their rival and find the necessary results over the next five races.
