Kimi Raikkonen gave his thoughts on leaving F1, and said that he leaves the sport after two decade with no regrets.
Raikkonen is one of the best drivers to have ever driven an F1 car. He became world champion in 2007, and has always been ridiculously quick behind the wheel. He will be retiring at the end of the season, and will be leaving with a glittering resume and career.
The Finn will be starting his 349th and final race this Sunday at Abu Dhabi. Raikkonen gave his thoughts on leaving F1, and said that everything that happened to him was a rollercoaster ride.
“F1 takes up a lot of time, but it has never been the main thing for me,” he said, as quoted by France 24.
“My life has always been outside. There are other more important things for me than F1. Today my schedule affects my whole family so I am looking forward to the day I have nothing planned and can do what they want.
“That is how it works in my head. I tell it like it is.”
Master of his own destiny
Raikkonen looked back on his time in F1, and admitted that he did what he had to do despite others repeatedly trying to change his mind.
“I think I was given a lot of advice, but didn’t listen,” he continued.
“I always felt you had to live your life in the best way for yourself and not for others.
“At work, if I had an option, I wouldn’t do most of what I’m asked, but with your life, how you live your life… you live it for yourself. If you try to live it as someone else wants, you might do it for a year or two but it will not end up very nicely.
“I’m happy I lived my way. Good or bad, I can live with it because it’s my decisions. I wouldn’t change a thing,” he concluded.
