Ralf Schumacher has suggested that Lewis Hamilton is scared of Max Verstappen this season.

There are seven races to go before this intense title rivalry between the two drivers is decided. As it stands, Hamilton leads Verstappen by two points, which is not a safe lead to bank on at all. Verstappen has also done very well to take the fight to the defending champion.

Ralf suggested that Hamilton seems to be scared of Verstappen this season, and is genuinely concerned that he will finish the season empty-handed.

In an interview with Motorsport.com, Ralf said, “I think Max Verstappen has made an incredible step.

“He is driving much more intelligently. He still takes risks, but not like before. Hamilton sometimes makes a mistake under great pressure but also handles the situation super (sic).

“They are really each other’s equals. You could also see how nervous Lewis was that Max did such a good job in Sochi.”

Dip in form

Hamilton’s usual romp to the title and clinical dissection of a season isn’t fully on display this season. Last season, he was world champion at this point. This time, there is a genuine excitement surrounding the title race, and it could go right down to the wire.

The seven-time world champion may very well end up with the eighth title, but he has definitely had to work way harder to go for the title this season. Verstappen has been a worthy adversary, and has routinely delivered under pressure this season.

The rivalry is most likely to go all the way to the last corner in Abu Dhabi. This has been a treat to watch, and all fans will hope that it carries on heated and respectful until the end.
