A report coming in from Italy claims that Red Bull is expected to shave off at least 8 kilograms from its car. This is undoubtedly great news for both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.
It may also be worth pointing out that Helmut Marko did recently promise a big update before round 4 in Italy.
Such a big weight reduction could be hugely significant for Max Verstappen, who can expect to complete laps 0.2s quickerer.
The new regulations in place for this season meant the cars were going to be a lot heavier than last year. However, a recent report had claimed that most teams were well over their prescribed limits.
This has led to poor results on the track. In fact, it is believed that Alfa Romeo is the only team that has actually stuck to the new weight limits.
This 8 kg reduction is massive for Red Bull. It’s worth looking back at Aston Martin’s recent efforts, where they only managed to take mere grams off their car through the removal of some paint.
Red Bull more difficult to tune: Marko
Marko commented on how big a difference the weight loss could make.
“The Ferrari is a car that is always fast, in all conditions [regardless of] temperature or tyres,” Marko told Servus TV.
“Our car is definitely more difficult to tune, but we will lose some weight in Imola. That should give us a significant time advantage, time gain in other words.”
The report further claims that Red Bull may well have used up around €2million of their budget cap in this update.
