Ricciardo reveals who he wants to see win 2021 title race

Daniel Ricciardo has given his opinion on the season’s title race, saying he just wants the best driver to win.

The battle for the title is being contested by Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, with the former leading the latter by six points. However, that is not a lead to bank the title hopes on, and it could be undone in one race itself.

Seeing the two drivers achieve remarkable consistency all season has been a treat to watch. No one can yet predict who will emerge victorious.

Ricciardo gave his opinion on the title race, and said the one who becomes champion should be the better driver over the next six races.

“I think just kind of ‘may the best man win’,” Ricciardo told reporters, as quoted by Planet F1.

“The rivalry they’ve had this year has been pretty awesome, as a fan. I think they’ve left it all out there. So from that point of view, I think they are where they are, I think it’s fair at the moment in terms of they are nip-and-tuck. So no preference.

“I think obviously people do like to see a fresh face, so maybe Max is the more popular vote because it would be a first title for him, and it’s something new and exciting for everyone. So that’s always like you’ve got that feel-good story.

“But I think as long as no like misfortune is involved, then I think the guy that wins is the one that’s going to deserve it.”

Another take

Ricciardo’s teammate Lando Norris was asked the same question, and he took a neutral stance like the Australian.

“Obviously I support Lewis as a Brit, but I’m also good mates with Max,” Norris said.

“So I just think whoever wins has done the best job. They’ve been very equal all season, so may the best man win. That’s it.”
