Daniel Ricciardo is worried about Ferrari, having seen their recent boost in pace at recent races.
Ferrari seemed off the pace compared to McLaren in the first half of the season. However, the introduction of their new engine has seen them gain a shot in the arm.
Since then, they have been the better team compared to McLaren. With the fight for P3 in the Constructors’ Championship still not over, the Italians’ pace will be troublesome for the Woking outfit.
Ricciardo revealed that he is worried about Ferrari, and said that they need to be at their best to halt their momentum.
“I don’t want to be too pessimistic, but I think they have made that little step, which has just put them a nose in front at the majority of circuits,” Ricciardo told RacingNews365.com.
“We might still find the odd circuit when we’ve got a bit more, but I would say, generalising it, I think they are a little step in front now.
“I think we’re gonna have to work pretty hard to keep them at bay in the Constructors’ (Championship).”
Box office rivalry
Ferrari and McLaren are two of the most illustrious names in F1 folklore. Although they should ideally be fighting for the world title, a scrap for P3 is where they find themselves today.
Ricciardo is aware of the history between the two teams, and said that although he is treating Ferrari like any other team, it is good for the sport to see McLaren race their old enemies.
“It’s fun. It’s obviously cool to be fighting with them,” he continued.
“Honestly, it doesn’t change too much, whether it’s them or someone else, but everyone knows Ferrari. I guess maybe it keeps people interested.
“McLaren and Ferrari are two of the biggest teams in the sport, so it’s cool to have a historic battle!” he concluded.
