Alpine team boss Otmar Szafnauer hopes that the FIA will “investigate and come to the right conclusion” over the similarities between the Ferrari and Haas cars.
Ever since Haas joined in 2016, it is believed that the team has maintained a very close association with Ferrari.
To add to the speculation, Haas recently switched its design office to Maranello, which is right next to Ferrari’s home.
While the team was regularly at the back of the grid last year, this time it has been consistent in its performances and can confidently claim to be in the midfield battle.
Many teams are believed to be concerned with just how similar the Haas is compared to the Ferrari in terms of its design.
Szafnauer urges FIA to intervene
This matter has been brought forward in front of the FIA.
“It’s a small team that’s done well over the winter, from last to sometimes third-fastest team and it’s a bit surprising,” Szafnauer said.
“I thought that the pecking order would stay almost the same because generally, in a big regulation change, over the years that I’ve been in Formula 1, the bigger the regulation change, the more it favours those with know-how and the infrastructure and the tools to actually exploit the new rules.
“So, it’s a bit surprising that the Haas are where they are for a small team but I trust the FIA will investigate and come to the right conclusion between how similar the two cars are.”
