Tsunoda comes up with strategy to beat Gasly – “Now I know the details”

AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda came up with a strategy to beat teammate Pierre Gasly, saying that he figured him out in 2021.

Tsunoda had a mixed rookie season with AlphaTauri. However, he did have a strong ending to it, taking a P4 and beating Gasly at Abu Dhabi in a clinical race.

The Japanese driver showed flashes of brilliance throughout the season, indicating that there is a rapid driver in there. Even though he was comprehensively beaten by his teammate, he won Grandprix247’s ‘Rookie of the Year’ award for 2021

However, Tsunoda revealed that he has come up with a strategy to beat Gasly in 2022, saying that the previous year was a learning experience for him.

As quoted by grandprix247.com, the Red Bull junior said, “(2022) is going to be a really important year for me.

“I don’t know how the pace is going to be for the car in the team, but you need to perform well and, of course, you need to beat the teammate and you need a more consistent race.”

“But now I know the details of what I have to improve and, if I improve this one, I can beat him, beat my teammate, or have a consistent race,” he continued.

“These are all of the things, all of the ingredients I saw to go forward. In terms of that, it was a really good preparation year I would say.

“Even if it’s a bad thing, if it’s a bad car or has bad pace, you still can develop the car and I know how to develop the car for myself to be faster.

“If it’s a good car, I have the full will to get consistent points and to achieve a good result,” he concluded.
