Verstappen reveals why he has chosen not to participate in “fake” Drive to Survive

Max Verstappen has revealed that he is not participating in the “fake” Drive to Survive programme this season.

DTS debuted three years ago to critical acclaim, shedding light on drivers, their racing, and their personal lives.

However, the Netflix show has been criticised by some for exaggerating certain aspects of some episodes, especially driver rivalries. They accuse them of showing it as incredibly heated, when in reality, it is far from it.

Verstappen revealed that he is not participating in the “fake” Drive to Survive programme this season, and said that the makers will portray anyone as anything to fit the narrative.

“They faked a few rivalries which they don’t really exist,” Verstappen told Race Fans.

“So I decided to not be a part of it, and did not give any more interviews after that because then there is nothing you can show.

“I am not really a dramatic show kind of person, I just want facts and real things to happen.”

Anti-dramatic Max

Last season, the Dutchman revealed that he was not happy with his depiction in the original, 2019 DTS season. He slammed Netflix for always trying to alter people’s personalities to suit the narrative of the episode in question.

“The problem is they will always position you in a way they want, so whatever you say, they will try to make you look reckless or trying to make you… whatever fits the story of the series,” he said last year.

“So I never really liked that. I prefer to just have a one-on-one interview to the person who would like to know me.”

DTS Season 4 will be released after the end of the season. It will cover the 2021 season in extensive detail. Given how exciting this season has been so far, S4 should be a cracker of a watch.

However, not having Verstappen will take some of the fun away, given his starring role this season as a title contender.
