Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel is one of the most liked individuals in Formula 1. The four-time world champion has a rich history of racing for both Red Bull and Ferrari in the past.
While all his titles came at Red Bull, Vettel has arguably lost some competitive edge in recent years, especially judging by his unceremonious exit at Ferrari and his most recent venture with Aston Martin.
However, with a P8 finish at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, there was at least something for the German to be happy about.
It was Vettel’s first finish inside the top-10 this season, having missed the first two races following a positive COVID test.
The fact that he has managed to do this at Aston Martin, a team that has clearly been struggling in the early part of the season, makes the accomplishment even better for Seb.
What did Vettel say?
“Even though I tried to hold Charles behind me in the last episode, there was no way to do it. He was three or four seconds faster in the end,” Vettel said.
Vettel is under no illusions about just how far behind the AMR22 is with respect to other cars on the circuit.
He knows for a fact that the team needs to do its best to get as many top-10 finishes as possible.
In that respect, the Grand Prix at Imola was a positive result for the team, with Lance Stroll also fetching points.
While it may be too early to rule them out of a midfield battle this year on an account of the poor results so far, Aston Martin would surely have got great confidence heading into the Miami Grand Prix.
