Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel ventured into rallying with the legendary Stig ‘the Stig’ Blomqvist, and called it an exceptional experience.
Vettel has kept himself busy during the off-season. He was in Sweden to contest the 2022 Race of Champions. He then made it into the final of the main Champion of Champions event, where he lost 3-1 to rallying legend Sebastian Loeb in a duel labelled the ‘Battle of the Sebs’.
However, the best part came when he rode shotgun in the ultra-exquisite Audi Quattro S1 car with 1984 World Rally Champion Stig behind the wheel.
Vettel ventured into rallying with the Stig and revealed that it was one of his biggest dreams that had been ticked off his bucket list.
As quoted by Planet F1, the German driver said replied, “I think the car is iconic, but then to have the chance to ride with the Stig – and the proper one not the made-up one (the Top Gear one) – has been really cool.
“I’m very grateful that Stig still does these types of events and then I was begging to get into the car and I used the opportunity to go side by side. It was magical in many ways. So I really enjoyed it.”
Not changing the experience
“In that car, I’m not sure I would be a passenger in a rally like the Monte Carlo or another one with the longest straights and faster corners!” the four-time Formula 1 World Champion continued.
“But it was really cool.”
Vettel will now return to F1 to prepare for the upcoming 2022 season. It will be his second season with Aston Martin; the first of which did not go that well.
