Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo endorsed Oscar Piastri for F1, and backed their countryman to do good things in the sport.
Piastri has been making headlines in F2 and wowing fans with his prowess. He has been on a winning streak, having won the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019, Formula Three in 2020, and F2 in 2021. The talent he possesses is special, and fans have been clamouring to see him in F1.
The Australian was made Alpine’s reserve driver for 2022, but an F1 seat is something he will have to wait a little longer for. However, the good news is that he is in good hands, because he is managed by former Red Bull driver Mark Webber.
Webber along with Ricciardo endorsed Piastri for F1, and said that he should be the obvious choice to get a seat next season.
Speaking to Speedcafe.com, as quoted by Motorsport.com, Webber said, “Absolutely, it’s a must for us. This is the last possible date. I think we’re all aware of that.
“So yes, 2023 will be the latest date, but even before that there may be some opportunities that you may never know. Oscar is in a good position. He will go a long way next year and is motivated and hungry at the same time.
“His debut was phenomenal, he’s made great progress with three titles. He couldn’t have done more than that. He dominated the Formula 2 Championship this year.
“We all know that he deserves to be in Formula 1 next year, so no one questions that, but that’s how conditions in the driver market have improved. There aren’t many seats there.”
“He didn’t just win, he dominated,” Ricciardo added.
“I don’t think anyone really expected him to. Fighting for a title is one thing but winning comfortably was huge.
“But I don’t think anyone expected him to dominate the championship like he did.”
